FLUXNET provides researchers access to consistent and integrated measurements of carbon dioxide, water vapor, and energy fluxes and associated site vegetation, edaphic, hydrologic, and meteorological characteristics. Fluxes and ancillary information are unified into consistent, quality assured, documented, readily accessible datasets via the World Wide Web (http://daac.ornl.gov/FLUXNET/index.html). The collection of data from a variety of worldwide terrestrial ecosystems (including managed systems) will contribute to research on understanding how carbon, water, and nutrient cycles of terrestr...

aerosol robotic network (aeronet)
|
|
The AERONET (AErosol RObotic NET/work) program is an inclusive federation of ground-based remote sensing aerosol networks established by AERONET and PHOTON and greatly expanded by AEROCAN and other agency, institute, and university partners. The goal of AERONET is to assess aerosol optical properties and validate satellite retrievals of aerosol optical properties.
The network imposes standardization of instruments, calibration, and processing. Data from this collaboration provides globally distributed observations of spectral aerosol optical depths, inversion products, and precipitable water...

Compiled Meteorological Data for BigFoot Sites, 1991-2002

Land Validation Data
Project:
bigfoot
|

The BigFoot Project requires meteorological data to run the ecosystem process models used for scaling GPP and NPP. For the purposes of monitoring interannual variability and for model testing, meteorological data sets have been compiled from recent years. The original measurements are aggregated to the daily time step for use in the BIOME-BGC model. Data from the year 2000 and beyond is likewise being compiled and will be used to generate the BigFoot GPP and NPP products. These site-level meteorological data sets are updated as new information becomes available....

The objective of this study is to measure leaf area index (LAI) at BigFoot / EOS Land Validation Sites. These sites are: AGRO (Bondville, Illinois, USA); CHEQ (Park Falls, Wisconsin, USA); HARV (Harvard Forest LTER, Massachusettes, USA); KONZ (Konza Prairie LTER, Kansas, USA); METL (OTTER Site, Sisters, Oregon, USA); NOBS (BOREAS NSA, Manatoba, Canada); SEVI (Sevilleta LTER, New Mexico, USA); TAPA [Tapajos, Brazil]; and TUND (Barrow, Alaska, USA).
Plots have already been established at the original four BigFoot sites (AGRO, HARV, KONZ, and NOBS). For newer sites, plots were established usi...

At each site, a 25-km2 study area has been identified using ETM+ imagery, centered around an active eddy flux tower. Twenty plots (25 m x 25 m in size) are placed outside the tower footprint and within the 25-km2 grid. These plots are arranged in a deliberate fashion such that each of the major cover types is represented (i.e., stratified by cover type). Eighty plots are arranged in a systematic spatial cluster design near the tower footprint. The location for each plot has been identified using an Ashtech GG-24 Surveyor to a precision of less than 1 meter RMS. The complex sampling design...

The objective of the study is to measure aboveground net primary production (ANPP) at BigFoot / EOS Land Validation Core Sites. These sites are: AGRO (Bondville site, Tolono, Illinois, USA); CHEQ (Tall Towers site, Park Falls, Wisconsin, USA); HARV (Harvard Forest LTER, Petersham, Massachusettes, USA); KONZ (Konza Prairie LTER, Manhattan, Kansas, USA); METL (OTTER Site, Sisters, Oregon, USA); NOBS (BOREAS NSA site, Thompson, Manatoba, Canada); SEVI (Sevilleta LTER, Belen, New Mexico, USA); TAPA [Tapajos (near Santarem), Brazil]; and TUND (Barrow, Alaska, USA).
NPP is defined as the sum of t...
