Global Distribution of Inundated Areal Fraction of 1 x 1 Degree Cells 01/01/1971 - 01/01/1982
Datasource: Regional and Global Data
Project: global land use datasets
The Global Distribution of Inundated Areal Fraction of 1 Degree Cells data set in combination with the Global Distribution of Wetland Ecosystems at 1 x 1 Degree Resolution data set may be used to calculate wetland areas. The global database of inundation was compiled at 1 degree latitude by 1 degree longitude resolution, from a series of about 250 Operational Navigation Charts at 1:1M scale....

Global Distribution of Wetland Ecosystems at 1 x 1 Degree Resolution 01/01/1971 - 01/01/1982
Datasource: Regional and Global Data
Project: giss global land use data sets
Global Distribution of Wetland Ecosystems at 1 degree by 1 degree resolution was developed from the integration of three independent global, digital sources: (1) vegetation, (2) soil properties and (3) fractional inundation in each 1° cell. The integration yielded a global distribution of wetland sites identifies with in situ ecological and environmental characteristics. The wetland sites have been classed into five major wetland groups on the basis of environmental characteristics governing methane emissions. These five groups are: forested bog; nonforested bog; forested swamp; nonforest...

Global River Discharge Database (SAGE) 01/01/1880 - 11/22/2009
Datasource: Regional and Global Data
Project: center for sustainability and the global environment (sage)
This database contains a compilation of monthly mean river discharge data for over 3500 sites worldwide. Each station is located on a river and measures the rate that water flows through it at various times of the year. The data sources are RivDis2.0, the United States Geological Survey, Brazilian National Department of Water and Electrical Energy, and HYDAT-Environment Canada. The period of record for each station is variable, from 3 years to greater than 100. All data are in m3/s. To access the data, click on the map at [http://www.sage.wisc.edu/riverdata/] to zoom in to the desired station...

Global Glaciology Mass Balance of Small Glaciers (GGGMBAL) 01/01/1940 - 11/22/2009
Datasource: Regional and Global Data
Project: n/a
Global Glaciology: Mass Balance of Small Glaciers (GGGMBAL) is a data set containing all available time series of annual mass balance measurements for the small glaciers of the world (Cogley and Adams 1998; Cogley 2003; Cogley 2005). (Small glaciers are all glaciers other than the large ice sheets of Antarctica and Greenland.) GGGMBAL includes measurements from about eighty glaciers in addition to those studied by Cogley and Adams (1998). The data set consists of four files: (1) A README file; (2) GGGMBAL.DAT: Mass-balance time series, and basic physiographic information, for over 300 glaci...

Global Network of Isotopes in Rivers (GNIR) 11/28/1964 - 11/22/2009
Datasource: Regional and Global Data
Project: n/a
The Global Network of Isotopes in Rivers (GNIR) was launched by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 2002 to monitor isotope compositions of runoff in large rivers worldwide. The purpose of the network will be to monitor changes in the global water cycle, specifically the impacts of global climate conditions, land-use changes, dams, and diversions schemes on large-scale river basins. Countries with sample GNIR sites currently include: Brazil, Ghana, Mali, and the United States of America. Isotopes in streamflow are excellent environmental tracers of the runoff portion of the hydro...

North America Shaded Relief at 1-Kilometer Resolution, Color and Grayscale Maps 01/01/1993 - 09/30/2002
Datasource: Regional and Global Data
Project: national atlas of the united states
The North America shaded relief data were derived from the GTOPO30 elevation data [http://edcdaac.usgs.gov/gtopo30/gtopo30.html]. GTOPO30 is a global digital elevation model (DEM) with a horizontal grid spacing of 30 arc seconds (approximately 1 kilometer). Each grid cell in the GTOPO30 model has a value that represents the average height above sea level within that cell. GTOPO30 was derived from several raster and vector sources of topographic information. It was developed between 1993 and 1996 through a collaborative effort led by staff at the U.S. Geological Survey's National Center for ERO...

Hydrology Database (HydroDB) for the Long-Term Ecological Research Network (LTER) 10/01/1927 - 11/22/2009
Datasource: Regional and Global Data
Project: long term ecological research (lter) program
The Hydrology Database (HydroDB) is a centralized server to provide open access to long-term streamflow records from a collection of 26 research sites in the United States and 1 site in Puerto Rico. HydroDB is a partnership between the National Science Foundation's Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) program and the U.S. Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station, Corvallis, Oregon. The LTER program and many U. S. Forest Service Experimental Research Stations collect and maintain extensive, long-term ecological databases including streamflow measurements. HydroDB has the ability to h...

Monthly Discharge Data for World Rivers (Except Former Soviet Union) (ds552.1) 01/01/1807 - 12/31/2000
Datasource: Regional and Global Data
Project: n/a
This data set (ds552.1) contains monthly river discharge rates for 4,425 locations around the world except for the former Soviet Union (FSU). Data for the 15 states of the FSU including Russia are compiled separately in ds553.2. This data set combines the UNESCO data set (ds552.0) plus 3,455 additional gauges, thus improving spatial coverage over much of the world with major gains in Brazil, Australia, and Argentina. The new gauges have not been subjected to the rigorous comparisons of the benchmark UNESCO portion. Their locations, names, and drainage areas have been edited; and obvious error...

Russian River Flow Data by Bodo, Enhanced (ds553.2) 01/01/1811 - 12/31/1995
Datasource: Regional and Global Data
Project: n/a
This data set has monthly discharge data for 2458 gauges in the former Soviet Union [FSU]: 316 gauge records from NCAR ds553.1 (Russian River Flow Data by Bodo); 2,134 gauge records from data sets released by Russia's State Hydrological Institute [SHI]; and 8 records from the global Dettinger and Diaz Global Hydroclimatic Data Network (GHCDN) compilation. The SHI data sets include 1,486 gauge records for the FSU Arctic drainage basin via R-Arcticnet [see www.R-Arcticnet.sr.unh.edu], and 1,206 gauge records for mostly non-Arctic FSU drainage basins partly available at [http://espejo.unesco.org....

World Lakes Database 01/01/1988 - 11/22/2009
Datasource: Regional and Global Data
Project: survey of the state of world lakes
The International Lake Environment Committee Foundation (ILEC), established in 1986, has collected environmental and socio-economic data of important (significant for human beings) lakes and reservoirs around the world. In 1988 ILEC started a data collection project entitled Survey of the State of World Lakes in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The aim of this project is to gather basic and important environmental information on natural and artificial lakes and to disseminate this information for their best use, especially in developing countries and countries...
