Process_Description:: We used climate-based habitat descriptions, geographic regions, substrate age, and elevation limits as defined by published sources, museum specimens, and other sources (Jonathan Price, unpublished data). Coverages of these habitat attributes were queried in GIS using a habitat association matrix to produce species specific potential distribution maps. Hawai'i Island was divided into eight geographic regions, and Maui, Moloka'i and O'ahu were each divided into two geographic regions. We did not delineate geographic regions on the other Hawaiian Islands: Kaua'i, Kaho'olawe, Lana'i, and Ni'ihau. In addition, we determined the minimum and maximum elevations using observations from the current data sets. Finally, we screeened out urban and agricultural areas that do not support native species.
