• Abstract: These data sets provide modern records of atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) from current monitoring stations in the Scripps Institution of Oceanography's (SIO's) air sampling network. These time series are frequently used in global-change research. The data records include tables, graphs, discussions of methods, trends in the data, and references to literature providing further information. Data are available for the following stationary sites: Alert, Northwest Territories, Canada; Baring Head, New Zealand; Barrow, Alaska, USA; Cape Kumukahi, Hawaii; Cape Matatula, American Samoa; Christmas Island, Kiribati; Kermadec Islands, Raoul Island; La Jolla Pier, California, USA; Mauna Loa, Hawaii, USA; and South Pole, Antarctica. The data files contain monthly and annual atmospheric CO2 concentrations derived from continuous air sampling at the top of four 7-m towers and one 27-m tower at Mauna Loa and from air flask samples from the other stations. The Mauna Loa atmospheric CO2 measurements constitute the longest continuous record of atmospheric CO2 concentrations available in the world. It is a reliable indicator of the regional trend in the concentration of atmospheric CO2 in the middle layers of the troposphere and is critical to CO2-related research.
